The Final Piece and What I have Learned

During the last few months through this semester in this English class, I have been introduced to new topics and have learned to be more open and comfortable in writing in my own voice. A big part of this class was to compose four different final essays that all included different components from what we learned in class. In my time in class I believe I achieved all course learning objectives through the help of my classmates as well as my professor. Working on my four main essays this semester, My Research- Based Essay has gone through trials of “revision, and editing” as well as “reinforced by reflecting on your writing process in metacognitive ways.” I have constantly tried to improve my writing after receiving feedback from my professor in our meetings. I have also asked my peers to read my essays to also gain feedback and how I could add more detail to my writing as a whole. For the second course learning objective, I have addressed this in my Rhetorical Analysis Essay about how “language is a universal force that shapes relationships, brings individuals together, and shapes deeply rooted culture” (Pang). I created this piece of writing to show how language plays a huge part in connecting with society and community.  In our class, we were also able to read and analyze texts critically. We all gathered into different groups to discuss topics and different analyzations of the text we read in class. I also critically analyzed texts in my Research-Based essay because it was important to have my point of view of Artificial Intelligence backed up with peer-reviewed journals. I was able to give a summary and analyze each of the sources I provided in my third essay. Referring back to the course learning objectives, I was able to “Identify and engage with credible sources and multiple perspectives in your writing” through my Rhetorical Analysis Essay. Although I used Amy Tans “Mother Tongue” as my main point, I was also able to provide my own perspective and thoughts into my writing to make it stand out and not repetitive. As for the last course learning objective, I used conventions appropriate to audience, genre, and purpose through my first and most personal essay, the Language and Literacy Essay. I was able to relate my experiences closely with the audience to get a sense of familiarity. It was important to me that I was able to do this, to show that it wasn’t just a story about myself, but a common feeling among us immigrant families.

This class was a joy to be a part of and has allowed me to write in my own voice with the support of my professor as well as my peers.
